Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has just announced that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty will be charged with 15 counts of perjury and must turn themselves in by 7am on Tuesday.
Mayor Kilpatrick says he will fight the case.
Before the mayor spoke, Worthy announced Monday that the he has been charged with perjury, obstruction of justice and misconduct in office.
His former chief of staff, Christine Beatty, is also facing perjury and obstruction of justice charges.
The charges follow the publication of sexually explicit text messages between Kilpatrick and Beatty.
Christine and Mayor Kilpatrick denied they had a romantic relationship under oath during a whistle-blowers' trial last summer.
