Website Report: Introducing benchcoach.com

benchcoach.jpg

Benchcoach.com is a new fantasy baseball site which combines an innovative user interface with high performance data-mining and analytics to allow fantasy team managers to visualize and interact with their entire league in a completely new, holistic way. From doing player research to customizing player projections to running scenarios, benchcoach.com provides an integrated environment where everything is tailored to help you make the best decisions for your team.

"I used to spend a couple of hours a week loading my team stats and the league standings into Excel to get a feel of where my team stood and my prospects of making up ground.", says Sang Park, co-founder of Benchcoach, "Now I do that in seconds with Benchcoach allowing me to try out dozens of scenarios daily to assess the state of my team."

With over 80 scoring stats and a scoring engine that supports points, rotisserie, and head to head leagues and their many variations, benchcoach can be tailored specifically to the rules of your league. Easy integration with Yahoo and ESPN Fantasy Baseball makes configuring the league and keeping the roster and scoring information up-to-date a simple, two-click process.

There's more to a league than just one team. The value of scenarios and predictions isn't based on a single roster, but every roster in the league. "Whenever I got a trade offer, I would have to work out the expected benefits and costs to my team relative to the league on paper," continues Park. "These estimates were very rough and didn't take into consideration the effect of the trade on other teams in the league. I finished 4th last year."

Why chase power if the potential gain isn't likely to result in any points? Using a simple drag and drop interface, Benchcoach makes it quick and easy to explore the effect of various line-up configurations, cross team trades and free agent-pickups. Scenarios aren't limited to a specific team: running the numbers on two-way, three-way, four-way or more trades is as simple as dragging a player from one team to another. Feedback is immediate and visual, the net and net-net effects are shown: you may have gained HR, but unless you overtook the leader that doesn't translate into any point gain. And that's what you need to win.

Benchcoach.com is free through May 16th, 2008 and will cost $10/season for 1 league, $20/season for 3 leagues, and $40/season for unlimited leagues.

Paula Dean Daly latest revealed on Clemen's love list

clemensdalyaffair.jpg

Roger Clemens life story is turning out to be a lot like a juicy soap opera. As if claims that he had an affair with country singer Mindy McCready weren't enough, now the New York Daily News is reporting that Clemens had an affair with Paulette Dean Daly.

Paulette is ex-wife of golfer John Daly, and she didn't exactly deny the relationship when asked about it by the News.

"Yeah, I've known Roger quite a while and we are friends,'' Daly told the newspaper.

When asked to elaborate on their relationship, Mrs. Daly seemed to be at a loss for words.

"You know what, I'm really uncomfortable talking about this," Paulette said. "I'm just going to have to say, no comment. I know Roger. I consider him a good friend. That's all I'm comfortable saying."

According to the Daily News Clemens arranged trips to Anaheim Stadium for Paulette Dean Daly so she could watch him pitch.

The lawyers for Brian McNamee, Clemens' ex-trainer, want testimony from anyone they think was involved with the pitcher.

I wonder what else is going to come out in the wood work?

'DC madam' Debora Jeane Palfrey found dead, apparently suicide

BREAKING NEWS

palfreyRIP.jpg

The body of a woman found Thursday morning in Florida is evidently that of "D.C. Madam" Deborah Jeane Palfrey.

Cops say Palfrey's body was found in a shed near her mother's mobile home Thursday morning in Tarpon Springs, about 20 miles northwest of Tampa.

Authorities say they also found a suicide note, but they did not disclose its contents or how she killed herself.

Deborah was convicted April 15th by a federal jury for running a prostitution service that catered to members of Washington's political elite.

Palfrey denied her escort service engaged in prostitution, saying that if any of the women engaged in sex acts for money, they did so without her knowledge.

Mariah Carey rumored to have married Nick Cannon

mariahmarriedmaybe.jpg

Mariah Carey and actor Nick Cannon evidently eloped and got married this week in the Bahamas.

Several media outlets say they have sources to confirm the private wedding at Mariah's house in Eleuthera.

Latina.com, the Web site for Latina magazine, cited a source near Cannon as saying the nuptials took place on Wednesday, and In Touch Weekly said Cannon had designed a $2.5 million ring he gave to his new bride.

The pair met when Cannon directed a video for Carey's recent single, "Bye, Bye," and have only been dating for a few weeks.

Mariah is also 11 years older than Nick!

If this is true, I'll actually be a little shocked. I'm a HUGE Mariah Carey fan, but the thought shot gun wedding with Nick Cannon sounds scary!

This is a developing story, and we will keep you posted.

Barack Obama, John McCain and their pastors... bad comparison!

POLITICAL OPINION

obamapastor.jpg

Not by any means is this any sort of endorsement for John McCain, but...

I am so sick of people (especially Barack Obama supporters) trying to compare Obama's decade-long pastor to a controversial pastor who happens to support John McCain.

Barack Obama probably has a lot more controversial supporters as does Hillary Clinton as does John McCain.

You can't beat a candidate for their supporters. They don't make that decision.

Ok, now that I got that off my chest. Donate to Hillary's campaign!

Guam votes still being counted

barackobamaguam.jpg

Residents in Guam went to the polls on Saturday to weigh in on the Democratic Presidential primary.

The polls closed at 6am EST time, but it might take all day to get the results. Guam technically holds a caucus, but the voters cast secret ballots that must be counted.

Barack Obama is currently leading Hillary Clinton by a small margin with the largest town to still report their results.

With 15 out of 19 villages reporting, Obama leads the vote count from the Guam Democratic presidential caucuses with 1,393 votes (53.3 percent). Hillary Clinton has 1,222 votes (46.7 percent).

An estimated 1,400 ballots from Guam’s largest village, Dededo, have not yet been counted.

We'll keep you posted as we get the results.

Obama barely wins Guam, loses ground in North Carolina

gretchenwilsongraduates.jpg

The "Redneck Woman" is finally a high school graduate at 34-years-old. Country singer Gretchen Wilson passed her General Educational Development exam in April and will walk across the stage in a May 15th graduation ceremony.

Gretchen told The Tennessean that her 7-year-old daughter was the real reason she finally finished school, saying, "I certainly don't want her to think you can be this successful without an education."

Wilson's first radio single, "Redneck Woman," spent five weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and it earned her a 2005 Grammy. Her debut album sold 4.5 million copies.

Despite all her accomplishments, until now Gretchen was one of 20 percent of Tennesseans without a high school diploma. Wilson says she dropped out of school in ninth grade.

Barack Obama calls Matt Lauer "Tim"

Poor Barack Obama. He is really starting to melt down. In addition to resorting to 'old school politics' by going negative, Barack called infamous Today Show anchor Matt Lauer "Tim" on Monday morning's broadcast.

Here's the video:

"Tim?" Where did he get that? I bet Barack wouldn't have liked it if Matt accidentally called him the wrong name like "Osama" or even by his middle name "Hussein."

When the great speaker isn't such a great speaker anymore, it might be time to hang it up.

I bet the Obama campaign is running on empty and tons of fear that they're going to lose in North Carolina and Indiana.

Hillary Clinton to deliver Letterman's Top 10 on eve of Indiana and N.C. primaries

POLITICAL OPINION

Hillary Clinton has had a way of popping up in the right places on the eve of the important primaries, and the night before Democrats in North Carolina and Indiana is no different.

On Monday night, Hillary will deliver the "Top 10 Reasons She Loves America." Some of those reason evidently include the ability to order her trademark pantsuits around the clock on the Internet, crisp bacon and TiVo.

Clinton will appear on tape from North Carolina where she is campaigning ahead of the state's nominating primary on Tuesday.

Hillary also used the list to take a poke at Letterman with her number 1 reason: "Apparently anyone can get a talk show."

For a spoiler, you can read the whole Top 10 after the jump.

PETA wants changes in horse racing

petawantschange.jpg

After this weekend's Kentucky Derby, a horse by the name of Eight Belles had to be put after she collapsed on Saturday.

Now the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is calling for a change in how race horses are treated.

In a letter to the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority (KHRA), PETA president Ingrid Newkirk urged regulations that were described as a "bare minimum for horse safety:"

-Thoroughbreds under the age of 3 should not be permitted to race.

-Synthetic surfaces or turf — which result in fewer injuries — should be mandated at all race courses.

-Whipping should be banned.

PETA representatives plan to protest at the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority's Lexington, Ky., headquarters on Tuesday.

Exit polls show 'hardcore' Republicans voting in Indiana Democratic Primary

indianacrossoverrepublicans.jpg

Early unofficial exit poll results from Indiana show that people who describe themselves as 'hardcore' Republicans are crossing over to vote in the Democratic Presidential primary.

This could be a good sign for Hillary Clinton since Republicans like Rush Limbaugh want to prolong the Democratic primary as long as possible. Finally, Rush Limbaugh and I agree on something.

While I don't want to hurt the Democratic party, I do want to see where this race is going.

The tide is clearly turning and a win in Indiana could put Hillary in good shape to win the nomination especially if (moreso, when) Howard Dean decides to give in and seat the delegates in Michican and Florida.

Indiana election officials say it may take a while for results to come in on Tuesday night, but we'll keep you informed. Just keep checking back and refreshing your browser!

Tiffany May: From soccer streaker to Playboy model

Tiffany May, the chick who soccer fans may remember as the streaker during the USA vs. Honduras U-23 game in Florida, has landed a shoot in Playboy.

May didn't exactly get naked when she streaked the soccer fans (see video below), but for Playboy she's going to bare all.

Most streakers end up in jail, but Tiffany will get to take her bod to the pages of Playboy.

"Maybe if there were more girls like me streaking at soccer games, we'd have a lot more fans," May said.

Good strategy Tiffany. At least Hugh Hefner will capitalize on it! I'm sure the male soccer and Playboy fans won't mind either.

Alex Rodriguez's wife says he fainted while she gave birth

cynthiaalexrodriguezpassout.jpg

Alex Rodiguez's wife Cynthia says the macho baseballer passed out during the birth of his daughter.

"The one nurse had a cold cloth on his head. The other nurse had the blood pressure on his arm. And my mother was like rubbing his back. And he is passed out on a couch. And I am there, in the middle of labor," Cynthia Rodriguez, wife of the New York Yankees star, said on an episode of the YES Network's "YESterdays" that is scheduled to be broadcast Wednesday night.

"And really, I am not being paid much attention to besides the doctor and a couple of nurses," she said. "And he is there moaning. In between pushing, I am going, `Honey, are you OK?' and `Are you breathing? Are you OK?' "

Cynthia and Alex's daughter, Natasha Alexander Rodriguez, was born on Nov. 18, 2004.

"As tough and big as he seems, he is real wimpy around doctors or any type of medical situation," Cynthia Rodriguez said, according to excerpts released Tuesday by YES. "I don't know why I thought the birth of our child would be different. In the middle of the night, I realized that I needed to go to the hospital. I wake him up. The first thing that comes out of his mouth, `Can we call your mother?' ... A few hours later, I said, `I think you can call my mom now.' Uh, and the color came back to his face when I told him he could call my mom."

A-Rod traveled from New York last week and arrived at a Miami-area hospital about 10 minutes after the birth of his second daughter, Ella Alexander Rodriguez, on April 21.

"I scouted her out for a month," he said. "I wanted to see her routine, and I wanted to see what time she came in, see how consistent she was. And sure enough, she was like a machine. She would come in right after work, and get on the treadmill and do her abs. And finally, I build enough courage after about 3 1/2 weeks. And I said, `I know you are going to go do some abs after. And do you mind if I join you?"

Barack Obama wins North Carolina, falls short on 'victory' speech

POLITICAL OPINION

Barack Obama has captured a win in North Carolina, a state his campaign expected to win by up to 20 percentage points.

With 75% of precincts reporting in North Carolina, Obama leads Hillary Clinton 56 to 42 percent.

Obama has already given his victory speech, and while the CNN commentators are in love with the Illinois Senator's words - I was NOT impressed!

As a candidate who could be the next President, Mr. Obama seemed like he was a nervous wreck! He even called North Carolina, South Carolina on accident. It was also grossly disgusting that he gathered all of the white women and put them behind him.

This man isn't ready to be president. I am shocked people are still voting for him!

Clinton claims victory in Indiana after all votes counted

BREAKING NEWS

Hillary Clinton picked up an important win in Indiana on Tuesday night after Barack Obama claimed victory in North Carolina.

Indiana was a much needed win for Clinton to keep her campaign alive.

"It's full speed on to the White House," Hillary said.

Clinton also reminded voters that her opponent predicted that she would win Pennsylvania, he would win North Carolina and Obama declared Indiana the "tie-break." Hillary claimed victory over that "tie-breaker" state.

"It is important to recognize that we are all on the same team," Clinton said in an effort to unify the party.

"I will never stop fighting for you," Clinton said to a packed house chanting "Hillary! Hillary!" and "Yes she will!"

Democrats in West Virginia vote next Tuesday.

What was Lake County, Indiana thinking?

lakecountyindiana.gif

Lake County, Indiana earned its spot on the map Tuesday night, but not in a good light. Political commentators and news anchors were extremely frustrated and calling foul when the northeastern Indiana county refused to report their tallies until all of the votes were counted.

Barack Obama's number one man in that part of the state who is also the mayor of a city called Gary, Rudy Clay, is under fire.

Clay told the Washington Post, "Let me tell you, when all the votes are counted, when Gary comes in, I think you're looking at something for the world to see," said Clay, "Gary has absolutely produced in large numbers for Obama here."

As it turned out Gary was right, but that still doesn't explain why the Lake County results were so late to be reported. It sure does seem fishy.

This is reminiscent of old school dirty politics. Before the voting process advanced as it has, dirty politicians would hold one county and then "find" the votes needed to put their candidate ahead.

Some say Clay was just hoping to bring home a victory for the Obama camp when the going got tough. Gary, Indiana reported a large number for Obama; but he just couldn't pull it off in the rest of the state. Clinton carried Indiana by a small margin.

What do you think?

Weather Reporter Hillary Andrews wins sexual harassment case

hillaryandrewswinslawsuit.jpgHillary Andrews, a former anchor for the Weather Channel, has won an undisclosed settlement against her former co-anchor for sexual harassment.

Andrews says Bob Stokes made repeated inquiries about her sex life and asked her questions like, ‘Will you lick my swizzle stick?' She also sas he followed her into the women's dressing room, quizzed her about her sexual relationships, and pleaded with her to say she found him attractive.

Back in January, an arbitrator ruled that 50-year-old Stokes subjected 38-year-old Andrews to “severe and pervasive” sexual harassment considered to be “extreme and offensive.”

This one is probably going to cost Mr. Stokes! Who knew weather departments could be so stormy?

Heath Shuler endorses Hillary Clinton for President

After Tuesday night's election Hillary won 86 delegates between the primaries in North Carolina and Indiana, according to the Associated Press. Four delegates are still to be awarded.

Even thought Hillary lost North Carolina to Obama by 14 percentage points, the results in Shuler's district were almost exactly the opposite. Clinton beat Obama by 13 points.

"Idol" dragged the show out as long as possible by filling the hour with performances from Maroon 5 and former "American Idol" reject Bo Bice. Oh... and we can't forget the witty exchanges with Maroon 5's Adam Levine and Bice.

The top 3 "Idol" contenders will take the stage on Tuesday night.

Mariah married Nick after the couple had only been dating for about two-months.

Jon Stewart's Dream Ticket: McCain and Clinton?

johnmccaindailyshow.jpg

John McCain appeared on 'The Daily Show' with Jon Stewart on Wednesday night, and the presumptive nominee joked that he was picking a fictional character as his GOP running mate this fall.

Dwight Schrute, the assistant to the regional manager (or "assistant regional manager," if you ask Schrute) in the Scranton branch of the faux Dunder Mifflin paper company on NBC's "The Office" was the pick.

"You heard it here first: Dwight Schrute," he declared.

John Stewart suggest that McCain ask Hillary Clinton to be his running mate.

"That's one I've never contemplated," McCain replied.

Stewart tried to get him to look in the camera and admit he would consider putting Hillary on his ticket, but he refused.

This was Senator McCain's 13th appearance on "The Daily Show."

RIP: Country legend Eddy Arnold

RIPeddyarnold.jpg

Country music superstar Eddy Arnold has died. He was 89 years old.

Arnold is best known for his hit country song, "Make the World Go Away."

His wife of 66 years, Sally, had died in March, and in the same month, Arnold fell outside his home, injuring his hip.

Eddy was a pioneer in "The Nashville Sound," and his mixture of country and pop styles paved the way for later singers such as Kenny Rogers.

"I sing a little country, I sing a little pop and I sing a little folk, and it all goes together," he said in 1970.

He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966. The following year he was the first person to receive the entertainer of the year award from the Country Music Association.

Nick Hogan to enter plea on Friday, judge determines sentence

nickhoganplea.bmp

It looks like Nick Hogan Bollea is going to fess up to his wreckless driving charges. Evidently, the Hulkster's son is going to plead guilty even though a deal hasn't been reached.

Nick faces criminal charges brought against him by the family of John Graziano. Graziano was severely injured in an accident on August 26, 2007 while a passenger in Nick Hogan's suped up Toyota Supra.

Hogan will evidently enter an "open plea." That means the judge get to chose Nick's sentence and the victim and his family will have an opportunity to testify at a sentencing hearing on how the crime has affected their lives.

The maximum penalty is five years in prison.

John Edwards avoids endorsing Presidential candidate

edwardsdidntendorse.jpgJohn Edwards is trying to clear things up on Friday afternoon after stopping short of endorsing Barack Obama earlier in the day on MSNBC.

Edwards tells USA Today Washington bureau chief Susan Page that he did not endorse Obama despite what people think they heard him say.

The former Presidential contender said he voted for the person that he wanted to be President and some people though he said "I just voted for him."

Edwards told Page that isn't what he said.

"I said I voted for 'em,' " Edwards said "I'm a Southerner. ... It wasn't meant to be male or female."

So, back to square one. John praised Barack, but I guess he won't endorse either candidate.

Meet the world's first green dog!

greenpuppy.jpgBelieve it or not, the world's first green puppy has been born in New Orleans.

The puppy was born last week, and he is perfectly heathly. He's just green.

Veterinarians say the dog is going to be just fine, but he won't stay green for ever. As the puppy grows up, the vets say he will likely be white or brown.

How did it happen?

"Sometimes, when a puppy is born, the amniotic fluid mixes with the placenta and dyes the coat of the puppy and it almost always happens to very light colored puppies," says Anna Zorrilla with the Louisiana SPCA.

"There are not health concerns," Zorrilla said. "It's really just a discoloration in the birthing process."

Well good for the little fella! It's not easy being green (or so I hear!)

If Obama beats Clinton, he can't count on her supporters

clintondemocrats.jpg

If Barack Obama does come out on top of the Democratic race, he has a big struggle ahead of him.

How can an elitist, flaming liberal win over the hard working, moderate "Hillary Democrats?" I'm not sure he can.

I'm a die-hard Democrat, but if Hillary doesn't win the nomination I have no intention of giving Obama my vote simply because he is a Democrat.

As the following Associated Press report shows, many of Clinton's supporters could end up on team McCain.

DMX arrested twice in one week for animal abuse and drug charges

dmxarrestedtwice.jpg

Wannabe badboy rapper DMX (born Earl Simmons) was arrested twice this week for drug and animal cruelty charges.

Evidently cops raided the artist's home early Friday morning, and the tough guy tried to barracade himself in his bedroom before giving in to police.

Authorities had a search warrant stemming from indictments on charges of felony drug possession and misdemeanor animal cruelty. DMX posted $7,500 bond and was released later on Friday.

The investigation has taken a while, according to cops. They were waiting on tests to return proving that the animals had not been taken care of properly. Evidently, Simmons told authorities his neighbor was caring for the dogs. Cops found that the neighbor had stopped feeding the dogs, because DMX wasn't sending money for food.

Friday deputies took five pit-bull puppies from the musician's house that will be cared for by inmates. Cops said they were surprised that Simmons still had dogs at his home.

Deputies also confiscated marijuana that appeared to be packaged for sale, drug paraphernalia and weapons, according to a court document.

Uma Thurman back in court, this time with Lancome cosmetics

umathurmansueslancome.jpg

Uma Thurman must be feeling confident after getting her stalker convicted, because she was back in court for another case this week.

Thurman responded to French cosmetics giant Lancome's lawsuit against her with one of her own Friday, taking their contract dispute over the use of her name and likeness in an advertising campaign to federal court.

The actress says that Lancome Parfums et Beaute & Cie boosted its worldwide sales and enhanced its "prestige, stature and bargaining power" by helping retailers and others use her name and likeness in advertising and promotions after her contract expired.

Uma wants $15 million in damages.

The dispute stems from a two-year contract Thurman and the company signed in April 2000, with an option to extend the agreement for another two years.

According to the contract, Thurman would be paid $5.8 million for the first two years and $3.1 million for each additional year, if the company exercised its option.

Lancome claimed the contract specifies that the company was not responsible if third parties used her name and face after the agreement lapsed.

The lawsuit topped a busy week for Thurman in Manhattan courts. On Wednesday, Jack Jordan was convicted in the state court's criminal branch of stalking and harassing her.

High School student hand cuffed over skimpy prom dress

skimpypromdress.jpg

A High School student in Texas was led out of her prom in handcuffs, not because she opened fire on her fellow students or even because she started a fight.

Marche Taylor wore a few straps of fabric barely covering her boobs and headed out to the Madison High School prom. The teachers didn't like it so much, so they hauled Marche out in handcuffs!

“I actually like the dress. Everybody else likes my dress,” Taylor said.

The high school student didn't even make it into the ballroom, when she entered the hotel where her prom was taking place a school official stopped her.

“She shook her head, she was like ‘you are not getting into this prom,’” said Taylor. “We were arguing back and forth because I wanted to know why I can’t get into my prom.”

Even though Marche offered to cover more skin, they still wouldn't let her in after the fight.

Zach Braff confirms "Scrubs" move to ABC

scrubstoabc.jpg

"Scrubs" is officially the never ending sitcom! The show's star Zach Braff confirmed rumors that the show isn't really over. Instead it is just moving from NBC to ABC.

"From: Zach Braff
Date: May 12, 2008 11:01 AM
Subject: Scrubs moves to ABC

Dear friends,

Many of you have been understandably confused by the Fairy Tale episode of Scrubs serving as the series finale. It was not. I was not allowed to say it until today, but Scrubs will be moving to ABC for its final season. We are currently filming the 8th and final season. The true finale of the show will air on ABC in the fall. NBC merely promoted the Fairy Tale episode as the finale, as it was the last episode they owned.

Also, several of you were very confused by the fact that Dr. Kelso and Laverne were still working at the hospital in the Fairy Tale episode. Because of the writer's strike, the last remaining episodes for NBC were aired out of order. This is why Dr. Kelso was still chief of medicine. That was not Laverne however, for those of you who have been following closely; it was a new nurse "Shirley" who no one thinks looks anything like Laverne except for JD.

Hope this clears some things up.

peace and love,
zb"

It isn't every day that you see a show jump networks. I guess we'll see how that works out!

White releases Jenna Bush Hager wedding photos

On Sunday, the White House released eight photos from Jenna Bush's wedding to Henry Hager in Crawford, Texas at the Bush family ranch.

Jenna wore a beautiful white Oscar de la Renta gown. Her twin sister, Barbara, was her maid of honor.

Bush decided to get married outside the spotlight rather than having a White House ceremony that would have attracted dignitaries and politicians. Instead, Jenna tied the knot at the Bush family ranch in Crawford, Texas.

The wedding was officiated by a Houston pastor who endorsed Barack Obama for President, so I guess they can say it was a bi-partisan affair.

Jenna has decided to take her husband's last name, so from here on out she will be Mrs. Henry Hager.

Even the Bushs don't want to be Bushs anymore either.

RIP: Robert Rauschenberg. 82 wonderfully artistic years

robertrauschenbergRIP.jpg

Pop artist Robert Rauschenberg has died, according to his gallery reps. He was 82 years old.

Rauschenberg, whose use of odd and everyday articles earned him a reputation as a pioneer in pop art but whose talents spanned the worlds of painting, sculpture and dance, died Monday, said Jennifer Joy, his representative at PaceWildenstein gallery in New York.

His work combines incongruous combinations of three-dimensional objects and paint, shared pop's blurring of art and objects from modern life.

Robert Rauschenberg later used up-to-the-minute photographed images in his works in the 1960s, including, memorably, pictures of John F. Kennedy.

Among his most famous works was "Bed," created after he woke up in the mood to paint but had no money for a canvas. His solution was to take the quilt off his bed and use paint, toothpaste and fingernail polish.

Not to be limited by paint, Rauschenberg was a sculptor and choreographer and even won a 1984 Grammy Award for best album package for the Talking Heads album "Speaking in Tongues."

Remy Ma smacked with 8 years behind bars

remyma8yeras.jpg

Remy Ma is going to jail for 8 years!

In March, a jury convicted her on four counts, including assault, weapons possession and attempted coercion, for shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the gut last July in a dispute over $3,000.

Will the world miss a D-list rapper for eight years? Probably not.

At the hearing, Ma's boyfriend, a hip-hop wannabe named Papoose, flipped out as the sentence was read.

"Get the fuck off me. Fuck y'all. Fuck jail," Papoose yelled as the hearing ended and bailiffs escorted him out of the courtroom. "I don't care. Lock me up. Lock me up. Take me to jail. Arrest me. It's all about money."

Papoose and Remy were about to get married in the Riker's Island jail, but the nuptuals got nixed when they caught him trying to smuggle Ma a handcuff key.

No word yet on whether Remy will stay at Riker's or be transported elsewhere.

Did rapper Nate Dogg really die?

natedoggnotdead.jpg

Popular hip-hop singer Nate Dogg is NOT dead, contrary to reports on Monday.

MediaTakeOut.com reported that the artist died after complications from a stroke, but as it turns out it isn't true.

The website has since retracted their original story and issued an apology.

Nate Dogg, a member of 213 along with Snoop Dogg and Warren G, suffered a stroke in January, which paralyzed the left side of his body.

Dogg whose real name is Nathaniel Hale, was placed in an occupational rehab facility.

I'm not sure how this rumor got started, but his friends sure have grounds to be offended!

Man killed in shooting near UC Berkley campus

BREAKING NEWS

KCBS radio is reporting that a man was shot and killed near the University of California Berkeley campus on Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting was evidently the result of an argument that broke out between two young men. It happened about 4 p.m. in a restaurant parking lot less than a block from a student dormitory, according to police.

The victim staggered to the multi-unit apartment building parking lot east of the Top Dog restaurant and collapsed, police said.

Tuesday's shooting comes 10 days after popular UC Berkeley nuclear engineering student Christopher Wootton, 21, was stabbed to death in front Chi Omega sorority house.

Hillary Clinton wins "overwhelming victory" in West Virginia

BREAKING NEWS

Hillary Clinton beat Barack Obama by a landslide in West Virginia's democratic primary on Tuesday night. Her big win may be enough to at least convince a lot of the super delegates to wait to pledge their support, and the exit poll results may seal the deal.

On Tuesday night, it looked like Clinton could beat Obama by nearly 40%, and Hillary gave a very powerful speech addressing both super delegates and voters who still get to weigh in.

"In light of our overwhelming victory here in West Virginia, I want to send a message to everyone still making up their mind," Clinton told a packed house of excited supporters in Charleston, West Virginia. "I am in this race, because I think I am the strongest delegate."

Clinton also reminded those who haven't voted either as citizens or super delegates that she has won votes in states that a Democrat needs to win in November listing swing states from New Mexico to Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The exit polls in West Virginia were also very much in Clinton's favor. When people who voted for Barack Obama were asked who they would vote if the could vote for Sen. Obama, 54% said they would vote for Hillary compared to 27% who said they would support McCain.

On the flip side when those who voted for Senator Clinton were asked the same question, only 38 percent said they would vote for Obama. Even more alarming, 34% said they would vote for John McCain. Another 25% of those hit for the exit poll said they wouldn't vote at all.

There is clearly a long way to go in this election. Last week pundits were suggesting that Hillary Clinton should just drop out of the race, but after such a powerful win West Virginia those calls will likely stop.

Remains found are those of Lindsay Harris, missing for three years

lindsaymissing.jpg

The remains of a woman found near an Illinois highway belong to Lindsay Harris who has been missing for over three years.

Harris, a native of upstate New York, was last seen making a bank deposit near her residence in Nevada during May of 2005.

Her family was notified of the results over the weekend.

Harris was evidently working as an escort in Las Vegas when she disappeared and moved to Vegas with her boyfriend who was an aspiring hip-hop artist.

A police investigation first turned up Harris’ abandoned car in the Luxor Casino parking lot in Las Vegas. Later that month, remains believed to be hers were found just outside Springfield, Ill.

Three years of DNA testing have confirmed the remains belong to Harris. Authorities in Nevada and Illinois say they will continue investigating the case.

While the show was at Bravo, Nina also served as a weekly judge on "Project Runway."

Kentucky looks good for Hillary Clinton

kentuckylooksgoodclinton.jpg

Even though John Edwards has jumped on the Barack Obama bandwagon, it looks like Senator Hillary Clinton is going to sail to another landslide victory in the Democratic primary on Tuesday in Kentucky.

A new Clinton leading Obama by 27% points – 58% to 31% among Kentucky Democratic primary voters.

There are 51 delegates up for grabs in Kentucky.

Clinton's track record gives her a strong advantage in Kentucky. White voters have favored Clinton over Obama by 55 percent to 40 percent, rural voters 51-43, and voters without college degrees 52-44 in exit polls from 26 competitive primaries.

"Obama doesn't have much of a natural constituency in Kentucky," said Michael Baranowski, a political scientist at Northern Kentucky University. "Really, everything works in Clinton's favor."

I think our only clean exit from this primary is to put together a ticket with both Clinton and Obama.

As for Edwards' endorsement, that's no big surprise. He practically endorsed Obama earlier last week.

It's the Battle of the Davids with the "American Idol" final 2

americanidolfinal2.jpg

it has come down to a battle of the Davids on "American Idol" as host Ryan Seacrest bid farewell to Syesha Mercado on Tuesday night.

We knew it would likely end up like this. David Archuleta, the boy wonder, will take on David Cook, the edgy re-composer.

"Idol" did a good job of filling the hour with an amazing performance by former "Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino.

The big question is, who will win the "American Idol" title. The screaming girls love them both, but I have a feeling the little girls are going to take this one and give the "Idol" crown to Archuleta.

The final two "American Idol" contestants will battle it out next Tuesday night, and a winner will be crowned Wednesday on Fox.

Whitney wins "America's Next Top Model" crown

whitneywinsantm.jpg

Power to the big girls! Well, the new "America's Next Top Model" winner Whitney isn't really big at all, but in the modeling industry she's considered "plus sized" or "full figured."

Whitney edged out all of the skinny girls to claim the top "Idol" title. Anya, the Hawaiian surfer girl, snagged the runner up spot.

The competition really started to tilt Whitney's way in the final to "Top Model" challenges. While her presentation on the commercial wasn't spectacular, Whitney really pulled off a good photo and later destroyed Anya on the catwalk.

It's great that Tyra Banks continued to her weight campaign by crowning a "bigger" ANTM. I was cheering for Whitney, it's great to see the "big girl" come out on top!

Former "Idol" Fantasia Barrino still looks like a winner

fantasiaonidol.jpg

Fantasia Barrino made her return to "American Idol" on Wednesday night and really stole the show with her new song "Bore Me."

It was almost like Fantasia was channeling James Brown, but she really burned it up. After a long very successful run on Broadway in "The Color Purple," Barrino told "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest that she was diving back into her music career.

"I'm working on an album right now and getting ready to go back on tour," Barrino told "Idol" host Seacrest. "I miss my music."

After Fantasia's performance was over, the cameras panned to the "American Idol" judges and Simon Cowell chin was hitting the desk. I'm not sure if Simon was bored, shocked or disappointed. He has a strange way of sending out horrible mixed messages, so I'm not sure if he liked Fantasia's "Idol" return or hated it.

Fantasia is still one of my favorite "American Idol."

Re-election McCain in 2013?

John McCain's campaign clearly has a head start in November's general election, but the Republicans are already looking ahead to McCain's re-election in 2013.

This new ad, just released, imagines that we're in 2013, four years into a McCain presidency.

Wow. That seems scary. I hope it doesn't look like George Bush's first four years.

The McCain campaign is getting a bit cocky since they have already snabbed their party's nomination, but I think a campaign running this long will definitely be good for the Democrats. Imagine how much more free media both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are getting over John McCain.

Maybe we should combine all of that free publicity and team up Clinton and Obama in the end.

"American's Next Top Model" winner Whitney Thompson makes talk show rounds

"America's Next Top Model" winner Whitney Thompson made the talk show rounds on Thursday morning basking in the glory of her Wednesday night win.

Whitney, who has clearly known she won for a while, also made headlines for being the first "plus sized" or "full figured" model.

Appearing on "Live with Regis & Kelly" Thompson talked about being considered large and revealed her size as 8-10.

Over on the View, Whoopi Goldberg blasted the idea that Whitney might be considered "large" by the modeling industry or "America's Next Top Model."

I'm glad Whitney won. Whether she is a "normal sized" or "plus-sized" model, it is good to see someone other than a skinny girl considered a "Top Model."

Are Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal getting married?

reesewithspoontowed.jpg

It looks like Reese Witherspoon is finally over Ryan Phillipe and ready to tie the knot with Jake Gyllenhaal.

OK! Magazine is reporting that Reese and Jake might be ready to get married.

"They've been talking marriage for a while," a source close to Reese said. "They'll be formally engaged any day now. They want to spend the rest of their lives together."

The insider also says that Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal won't be shacking up before they tie the knot.

"This is a very serious relationship," the source explains. "But Reese is very conservative and traditional. I'm sure she doesn't want her kids to see her 'living in sin.'"

Neither Reese or Jake's reps are talking.

Lori Drew indicted for conspiracy over MySpace hoax

loridrewindicted.jpg

The woman who created a fake Myspace to play a hoax on a 13-year old girl has been charged with one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing protected computers without authorisation to obtain information to inflict emotional distress.

Lori Drew evidently created a MySpace page and convinced teenaged neighbor Megan Meier that she had a new boyfriend named Josh.

Megan and fictious "Josh" formed an online relationship that developed over seven weeks before Lori used her character to demean Megan.

The teen girl eventually killed herself and the Meier family blames Lori.

If convicted, Drew could get up to 5 years in jail for each of the three charges.

In this photo:

Tricia Walsh-Smith releases another YouTube video

She's baaack!

Everyone's favorite self proclaimed "YouTube Superstar and Warrior" Tricia Walsh-Smith has put together another one of her perfectly edited husband bashing videos and released it on the internet.

Take a look here:

Tricia is one angry estranged (with an emphasis on the "strange") wife!

Quick Facts (to catch those up who need it):

1. Tricia is trying to destroy her extremely rich husband, Philip Smith.
2. She's all upset that she's getting kicked out of her posh Park Ave apartment as the result of a solid prenup written up before the Walsh-Smith union.
3. At first Tricia said she wanted to expose Philip and his divorce deceit. Now, I'm not really sure what she's trying to accomplish, but it is definitely good TV!

Did George Bush take a stab at Barack Obama?

President George Bush has fallen under criticism for landing a low blow on Barack Obama claiming that some people want the President to negotiate with terrorists.

Take a look at the video here:

This is really just a sample of what the Republicans will do to Barack Obama if he is the Democratic nominee.

George Bush and John McCain may not see eye to eye on a lot of things, but you can guarantee that Bush would rather see anyone in the White House than the Junior Senator from Illinois.

It will take a lot to face the Republican powerhouse in November. Party unity is key if the Democrats want to win. I say it is time to revisit putting both Clinton and Obama on the same ticket this fall.

Rapper DMX pleads not guilty to all charges

DMX pleaded not guilty to 11 different charges on Thursday including accusations of drug possession and animal abuse.

The former rapper was indicted last week for various charges on felony marijuana and paraphernalia possession and seven counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.

His arrest was the result of an August raid when authorities raided his house investigating if he was neglecting 12 pit bulls. Many of the dogs didn't even have food or water. Investigators also found three dogs buried in his back yard.

This isn't DMX's first run-in with the law. In June 2006, Scottsdale police nabbed him for carrying a concealed handgun outside a nightclub. DMX also served jail time in 2005 for violating his parole following a 2004 incident in which he posed as an undercover federal agent and crashed his sport utility vehicle through a security gate at Kennedy International Airport.

Dennis Rodman charged with domestic violence after hitting Gina Peterson

dennisrodmancharged.jpg

Dennis Rodman was charged with domestic violence after he allegedly hit his girlfriend in a Los Angeles Hotel last month.

A spokesman for Los Angeles prosecutors says Rodman was charged Wednesday with spousal battery, brandishing a deadly weapon and dissuading a witness. All of these charges are misdemeanors.

Dennis was arrested at the hotel after his girlfriend Gina Peterson called hotel security reported that Rodman slugged her. Cops says she suffered injuries to her arm.

Rodman's spokesperson said the 46-year-old former Chicago Bull had too much to drink when he got into an altercation with Peterson. The spokesman added that Rodman and Peterson are still dating.

Before retiring to become a full-time freak, Rodman was a part of the championship teams with both the Bulls and the Detroit Pistons.

RIPmondavi.jpg

Robert Mondavi, a pioneering vintner who helped establish California's wine country, died at his Napa Valley home Friday. He was 94.

According to his spokesperson, Mondavi died peacefully at his home in Yountville, Robert Mondavi Winery.

In 1966, when he was 52 years old, Mondavi opened the winery that helped turn the Napa Valley into a world center of the wine industry.

Born in Virginia, Minn., Mondavi got an economics degree from Stanford University in the 1930s and went to work at the Charles Krug Winery, which his Italian-born parents had bought after moving to California from Minnesota.

The 64-member board met and voted to elect Jealous in Baltimore and plans to formally announce its decision on Saturday.

As for his experience, Ben is a former news executive and lifelong activist. For the NAACP, they'll get a young well connected leader familiar with black leadership and social justice issues.

Ted Kennedy rushed to hospital after possible stroke

BREAKING NEWS

kennedyrushedtoer.jpg

Senator Ted Kennedy has evidently been rushed to the hospital.

CNN is reporting that the 76-year-old leading Democrat suffered a stroke, but local TV station WHDH said Kennedy's condition was not announced.

Ted was taken to the hospital by medical air transport from the Kennedy compound, so it seems to be something pretty serious.

The Senator has had back problems since a 1964 plane crash, which killed a pilot and one of Kennedy's aides. Fellow Democratic Senator Birch Bayh of Indiana, who was traveling with Kennedy, pulled him from the wreckage.

Kennedy is second longest serving member of the Senate.

Chinese residents evacuate worried of floods following earthquake

chineseevac.jpg

Chinese residents near the epicenter of the most recent earthquake evacuated on Saturday over the fear of floods from rivers blocked by landslides.

A local police officer said that rescue officials were worried that water from a choked river would inundate the town.

"The river was jammed up by a landslide, now that may burst. That is what we are worried about," the policeman said as he hurried by, not giving his name.

"I'm very scared. I heard that the water will be crashing down here," said Liang Xiao, one of the people fleeing. "If that happens, there will be over 10 yards of water over our heads."

Soldiers helped carry older people out of Beichuan town, one of the areas hit hardest by the magnitude 7.9 quake. Meanwhile survivors cradled babies on a road jammed with vehicles and people.

The Chinese Ministry of Health said there had been no major outbreaks of epidemics or other public health hazards in the earthquake area, according to Xinhua. By the end of the day on Friday, hospitals in Sichuan had received 116,460 patients, including nearly 16,000 severely injured.

Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse release wacky YouTube video

What in the world are Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse doing?

Amy may not want to put Pete's song on her next album, but they are still hanging out together. Not only that, the gruesome duo is now making videos about their adventures.

In this latest video, Amy and Pete look cracked out, and they are playing with rodents. I'm pretty sure the black finger nails are a result of hitting up the crack pipe!

This has to take the cake! Do sober people do things like this?

I can't help but wonder what's next for the Winehouse - Doherty entertainment hour.

Here are the details of Ashlee Simpson's weekend wedding

As we suspected, Ashlee Simpson got married to her soon-to-be baby daddy Joel Madden.

Here are the details of the Simpson-Wentz weekend nuptials.

The biggest news from the event is that Ashlee told the 150 friends and family in attendance that she is indeed pregnant.

The ceremony was a family affair. The wedding even took place at the Simpson family home. Ashlee's father, former pastor Joe Simpson, performed the wedding. Older sis Jessica Simpson was Ashlee's maid of honor. Pete's bulldog, Hemingway, served as the ring-bearer.

It probably took a lot to make Ashlee a 'beautiful bride'. She wore an ivory lace wedding gown by Monique Lhuillier and a gorgeous diamond necklace and earrings by Neil Lane.

To add a tacky twist, Pete and Ashlee's wedding was themed Alice in Wonderland. The wedding cake was decorated with Wonderland items such as a top hat, tea pot, stop watch and a pot of flowers on top.

Actress Loni Anderson gets hitched to singer Bob Flick

loniandersonweddingpics.jpg

Loni Anderson tied the knot over the again weekend marrying 1960's folk singer Bob Flick.

Anderson is famous for her work on "WKRP in Cincinnati" and "Nurses" while Flick is best known as a founding member of the 1960s folk group The Brothers Four.

Here are the details from Loni and Bob's nuptials.

Her son, Quinton Reynolds walked Loni down the aisle. Quinton is Anderson's son with Burt Reynolds, whom she divorced in 1993. Anderson's granddaughters wore the same diamond hearts the actress wore in the 1983 movie "Stroker Ace," in which she starred with Reynolds.

Flick and Anderson met at a movie premiere in her home town of Minneapolis a few years after his group hit No. 2 on the pop charts with "Greenfields" in 1960.

A local newspaper had sent Loni out to pose with the group as the "lucky young fan," an image that was used Saturday night as the couple's wedding poster, her publicist, Cheryl Kagan, told The Associated Press.

Anderson, 62, plans to keep her maiden name.

Two hours comes down to two minutes of major change on "Desperate Housewives" finale

Everything changed on Sunday night's season finale of "Desperate Housewives." In the last two minutes of the fourth season, everything flashed forward five years into the future.

Incase you missed it, you can watch the video here:

I'm not really that big of a "Desperate Housewives" fanatic, but our friend JustJared is. He offered this great recap:

"Model-turned-mommy Gabby (Eva Longoria) appears to be raising two daughters. Juanita and Celia were seen playing with Gabby’s makeup and clothes.

Bree (Marcia Cross) has a cookbook coming out and her son seems to be her agent. She and husband Orson are still together.

Lynette (Felicity Huffman) is dealing with her juvenile delinquent sons.

Katherine’s (Dana Delany) daughter Dylan is getting married.

Susan (Teri Hatcher) has a new man in her life, played by Gale Harold."

I bet the real "Desperate Housewives" fans can't wait for the fifth season to roll around!

Troubled Rep. Vito Fossella makes shocking public parade appearance

vitoparades.jpeg

Even if I'm the only New Yorker to say it, I think it is totally bizarre of troubled New York City Congressman Vito Fossella came out and marched in the annual Great Kills Memorial Day parade on Staten Island.

Vito actually seemed to be a fan favorite. You never would have known that news just broke of Rep. Fossella's love child in Virginia. Vito strolled the parade route very confidently, border-line arrogantly. He looked like nothing more than a high school jock who cheated on his teen girlfriend. Several women were even seen hugging the congressman in video airing on local New York City news station NY1.

Fossella's troubles started on May 1st when he was popped for drunken-driving outside Washington, DC. Evidently his mistress with whom he fathered a love child several years ago, was the one who came to bail Vito out.

Many expected him to resign last weekend, but Fossella seems to be pressing forward. Politicians typically attend parades to raise the approval rating and to ultimately get re-elected.

I'm really shocked that he is moving forward like nothing ever happened. I'll be really surprised if the media lets him do it!

New Jersey-based Jevic Transportation closes, blames fuel costs

jevicclosing.jpg

Jevic Transportation announced on Monday that they are closing their doors citing high fuel costs as their reason to cease operations.

Jevic will deliver all of its remaining loads before closing and will stop it pickup services on May 19th.

David Gorman, Jevic President and CEO, posted a letter announcing the closure on the Jevic.com website at 8:33 a.m. EDT Monday, informing customers of the shutdown.

"Dear Valued Jevic Customer," Gorman writes. "I regret to inform you that Jevic Transportation Inc. will be discontinuing operations. The current high fuel costs, economic downturn, increasing insurance costs, and tightening credit markets have made this decision necessary."

Letters were also sent to all Jevic employees on Monday, notifying them that May 19th will be their last day of work. Staffers were also told their health insurance would end on that day too.

Kiefer Sutherland and Elizabeth Kelly Winn officially divorced

kiefersutherlanddivorced.jpg

Even though I thought he was already divorced, evidently Kiefer Sutherland's separation from his wife Elizabeth Kelly Winn was recognized by the court on Friday.

Kiefer filed for divorce from Elizabeth, his wife of nearly eight years in 2004, citing irreconcilable differences.

Sutherland, of course, was released from a Glendale jail in Jaunuary after serving 48 days on a DUI charge. He pleaded no contest in October to driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08 percent. The '24' actor was sentenced to 30 days, as well as 18 days for violating probation stemming from a 2004 drunken-driving arrest.

Fox recently announced that Sutherland and the rest of the cast will be back November 23rd when the network will air a two-hour "24" prequel to the upcoming seventh season.

Oregon and Kentucky democrats vote on Tuesday

hillaryclintontooregon.jpg

Democrats in Oregon and Kentucky go to the polls on Tuesday to cast their votes in the presidential primary.

Hillary Clinton is poised to sweep Kentucky while Barack Obama is expected to win in Oregon. Both candidates seemed to stick to where they were winning, but Clinton pointed out that Obama seemed to skip over Kentucky. Chelsea and Bill Clinton were campaigning for Hillary in Oregon all day on Monday.

Senator Clinton has asked Oregonians not to count her out.

"I've been declared dead so many times, and luckily it's been premature, and I'm hoping it stays premature," Clinton said. "If I'd listened to people a month ago, three weeks ago, last week, you wouldn't be here trying to make up your minds about who you're going to vote for," she added.

Barack Obama has pretty much declared himself the winner of the party's nomination campaigning in states that don't vote again until November.

AP reporting Vito Fossella won't seek re-election

BREAKING NEWS

vitofossellawontrun.jpg

Despite his recent public appearances, the Associated Press is reporting that troubled New York Congressman VIto Fossella will not run for re-election.

Fossella's political career was derailed after he got busted for DUI in Virginia and was picked up at the police station by his mistress with whom he fathered a child out of wedlock. All along, Vito has a family with children back at home in Staten Island.

It is your typical double life politician story. Fossella had one life in Washington and one life at home in New York.

While it might seem like common sense that Rep. Fossella wouldn't seek re-election after earning such a tarnished name, his recent public appearances have led us to believe that he hopes to save his image and hold on to his seat in Congress.

If the Assocated Press' two anonymous sources are correct, Vito's political career is over.

Hillary Clinton reminds us there's no nominee yet

hillaryclintonbeforeky.jpg

Hillary Clinton is telling fellow democrat Barack Obama to hold up, there's no nominee yet!

"You can declare yourself anything, but if you don't have the votes, it doesn't matter," Clinton said Monday in a satellite interview with an Oregon television station before a campaign appearance in Kentucky.

Clinton is winning the popular vote for the overall election since you can count Michigan and Florida's popular vote. Their delegates, however, were stripped by the Democratic National Committee.

"Once we include Florida and Michigan, neither Senator Obama nor I will have enough delegates to get the nomination, so there is no way that this is going to end anytime soon, because we're going to keep fighting for the nomination," Clinton told voters in Kentucky.

We'll have full election results right here at the Socialite Report on Tuesday. Remember to keep checking back after the polls close.

What is the next step for Ted Kennedy after tumor diagnosis?

BREAKING NEWS

tedkennedytumor.jpg

Senator Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

As you probably know, Senator Kennedy was rushed to the hospital over the weekend after suffering from two siezures.

Doctor said on Monday that the Massachusetts has a malignant tumor meaning it is severe and could progressively worsen.

Preliminary biopsy results showed a malignant glioma in the left parietal-lobe. Typical treatment includes combinations of radiation and chemotherapy, but Kennedy will undgo further tests before a treatment is decided.

Malignant gliomas are a type of brain cancer diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year and the most common type among adults, according to ABC News. How well patients do depends on what specific tumor type is determined by further testing.

This is a breaking story, and we will keep you posted.

Washington reacts to Senator Ted Kennedy's diagnosis

tedkennedyreaction.jpg

After news broke early Tuesday evening that Senator Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Now, both Democrats and Republicans throughout Washington and politicans across the country.

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, who was endorsed by Kennedy earlier this year, spoke with CNN's Wolf Blitzer saying that Kennedy is a great role model and what senator should be.

George Bush also released a statement from the White House saying that Kennedy has "tremndous courage" and a "powerful spirit."

Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania who was also previously diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor reminded constiuents that he, himself, was only given a few weeks to live after he was diagnosed. The great news is Specter keeps on ticking!

Senator Chris Dodd, described as Kennedy's best friend in the Senate said, "We're confident he's going to be back."

Republican Presidential candidate John McCain also released the following statement:

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Senator Kennedy and his family. We hope and pray his doctors will be able to effectively treat his condition and that he will experience a full recovery. I have described Ted Kennedy as the last lion in the Senate, and I have held that view because he remains the single most effective member of the Senate."

Piazza announces his retirement from baseball

mikepiazza.jpg

Mike Piazza says he is retiring after a 16-season career in which he became one of the top-hitting catchers in baseball history.

"After discussing my options with my wife, family and agent, I felt it was time to start a new chapter in my life," he said in a statement released Tuesday by his agent, Dan Lozano. "It has been an amazing journey ... So today, I walk away with no regrets.

"I knew this day was coming and over the last two years. I started to make my peace with it. I gave it my all and left everything on the field."

Piazza,39, batted .275 with eight homers and 44 RBIs as a designated hitter for Oakland last season and became a free agent but did not re-sign.

He was not available to discuss his retirement, according to spokesperson for his agent.

Clinton dominates Kentucky, Obama wins Oregon

oregonkyresults.jpg

Hillary Clinton won Kentucky by a landslide on Tuesday night as Barack Obama won Oregon by what seems to be a considerable margin.

This only says one thing. The Democrats need both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama on their ticket to win in November.

Obama is winning where Democrats win. He is attracting voters who may not normally vote. I don't agree with a lot of Barack's beliefs, but I think he is an admirable leader.

Clinton has managed to win in areas where Democrats don't normally win. Hillary is really appealing to the blue collar voters and tapping into Republican territory.

We should really just let these last few states vote and let the best person win at the convention!

If Clinton keeps winning by margins like this, it might make the decision a little harder than you can imagine.

Kristi Yamaguchi is the 'Dancing' queen

yamaguchiwinsdwts.jpg

"Dancing with the Stars" came to an end on Tuesday night as professional ice skater Kristi Yamaguchi captured the famed mirrorball trophy.

"This is just the icing on the cake," Kristi said after her victory Tuesday night. "I honestly thank all the fans out there ... everyone who's made this a dream experience."

Yamaguchi was clearly the most talented dancer this season, and after she scored a perfect 30 on Monday night - everyone basically assumed she would win.

Jason Taylor was crowned the "Dancing" runner-up, and Cristian de la Fuente was the first to get voted off.

Kristi Yamaguchi broke the string of male winners with Helio Castroneves, Olympic speed-skater Apolo Anton Ohno, NFL star Emmitt Smith and 98 Degrees singer Drew Lachey being the last few winners. Kelly Monaco was the only other female winner during the first season of "Dancing with the Stars."

"American Idol" Battle of the David's leaves clear winner

It seems like David Archuleta will be crowned the "American Idol" on Wednesday night. The judges jumped behind what the voters have been saying all along when Simon Cowell prematurely crowned Archuleta the winner over David Cook.

"You came out here to win and what we have witnessed was a knockout," Cowell told Archuleta.

Both Davids performed three songs each on the "American Idol" finale, and all of Archuleta's songs were much more solid than Cook's choices.

Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul basically echoed Simon's views.

On Wednesday night, the new "American Idol" will be crowned. Former "Idol" winner Carrie Underwood will also be among the list of performers.

Who do you think won "American Idol?"

Jessica Alba secretly gets hitched

albawarrenwed.jpgJessica Alba has totally fallen off the radar. Alba evidently married her beau, Cash Warren, without anyone even knowing.

Jessica's publicist Brad Cafarelli confirmed that the wedding took place but didn't give any more details. Alba and Warren got engaged in December after Cash got Jessica pregnant.

The newly weds met on the set of The Fantastic Four. Jessica was the star, Cash was the director's assistant.

At least they made it down the aisle before the baby popped out. They couldn't be out shown by Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz!

Will Charlie Crist be John McCain's running mate?

GovCharlieCristforVP.jpgIt seems that Republican Presidential nominee John McCain is interviewing running mates, and Florida Governor Charlie Crist might be at the top of the short list.

This week John McCain will host Crist, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and other potential Vice-Presidential candidates.

The McCain campaign hasn't confirmed that Crist, Jindal or anyone else as potential running mates.

Crist has been a pretty popular Governor until recently when his approval ratings starting slipping. The governor promised that property taxes would "drop like a rock," and the Floridians are still waiting.

LIVE BLOGGING

We're taking our first stab at live blogging with the "American Idol" season finale. This doesn't mean we'll report every time Ryan Seacrest slides across the stage on a flying carpet, but we will report relevant "Idol" news.

Seacrest has already revealed that one David got 56% of the vote while the other David got 44%. He also revealed that "Idol" registered more votes than ever!

No big surprise there. Who do you think will be tonight's big "American Idol" winner?

American Idol packs final show with great performers!

LIVE BLOGGING

idolfinaledavids.jpg

Ryan Seacrest still hasn't told us who the "American Idol" winner is, but the producers have done a good job of filling the two hours with great performances.

The Jonas Brothers actually rocked! I like their songs, but they normally annoy me too much to watch them. They weren't so bad this time!

The top women sang with Donna Summer while the top male contestants sang with Bryan Adams.

Syesha Mercado dueted with Seal on his song "Waiting for You."

"Idol" hopeful David Cook performed with ZZ Top, and his competition David Archuleta performed with with One Republic.

No, won't you just tell us: Who is the new "American Idol?"

The results are in! David Cook is the new “American Idol.” The rocker shocked everyone with a landslide over David Archuleta who has dominated the competition from the start despite a few rough performances.

Ryan Seacrest announced earlier in the show that the winning David got 56% of the vote compared to 44% percent to the loser.

Seacrest also said that 97.5 million people texted or called in their vote. That means David Cook got 54.6 million votes to beat David Archuleta’s 42.9 million. That’s a lot of votes, and an “American Idol” record.

Daughter of gospel singer Steven Curtis Champman dies in car accident

champanfamilyaccident.jpg

Tennessee authorities say the 5-year-old daughter of contemporary Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman has been struck and killed by an SUV driven by her teenage brother.

Chapman's youngest child Maria Sue was evidently hit in the family's driveway when he brother was driving the vehicle and didn't see her in his path.

A police spokeswoman told the Associated Press that several Chapman family members witnessed the accident.

"It looks like a tragic accident," said Laura McPherson, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

No charges are expected. Steven Curtis Chapman and his family are known for being very tight.

In this photo: This undated family handout provided by the Chapman family shows from left to right: Will Franklin, Maria, Steven Curtis, Shaoey, MaryBeth, Stevey Joy, Caleb, and Emily Chapman.

WCBS says good-bye to Jim Rosenfield

rosenfieldleaving.jpg

WCBS News said good-bye to lead male anchor Jim Rosenfield on Thursday during the 6 p.m. newscast. Rosenfield has fallen victim to continued budget cuts at CBS stations across the nation.

Jim joined WCBS for his second time a few years ago to anchor the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newcasts. Recently, Rosenfield and his co-anchor Dana Tyler were moved to noon and 6 p.m. as the station tries to appear to younger viewers with Chris Wragge and Christine Johnson. That change breached Rosefield's contract, so technically he was free to leave at any time.

Before coming to CBS 2, Jim anchored "Live at 5" along side Sue Simmons at WNBC.

WCBS hasn't made any official announcement about who will be replacing Rosenfield. We suspect the youngin' Chris Wragge will get the gig. (Watch out Dana!)

John McCain says 'no thanks' to John Hagee endorsement

mccaindenounceshagee.jpg

John McCain says he has rejected the endorsement of two conservative pastor John Hagee and Rod Parsley.

McCain rejected a previous endorsement from Hagee, a Texas preacher, after an audio recording surfaced in which the preacher said God sent Adolf Hitler to help Jews reach the promised land. McCain called the comment "crazy and unacceptable." Hagee also attacked Catholics and gays, so this one was well over due.

McCain issued a statement Thursday afternoon:

"Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee's endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well."

Senator McCain also said he doesn't want Rod Parsley to support him either. Parsley is an Ohio preacher who has sharply criticized Islam and called the Jewish religion inherently violent.

"I believe there is no place for that kind of dialogue in America, and I believe that even though he endorsed me, and I didn't endorse him, the fact is that I repudiate such talk, and I reject his endorsement," McCain told the AP.

McCain actively courted Hagee, who leads a megachurch with a congregation of tens of thousands and has an even wider television audience. Former GOP presidential rivals also sought Hagee's backing.

In this photo: In this Feb. 27, 2008, file photo Republican presidential hopeful, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., speaks at a news conference with Rev. John Hagee, a Texas televangelist who endorsed John McCain. McCain and the Rev. Hagee parted ways Thursday, after inflammatory remarks Mr. Hagee made about the Holocaust surfaced.

Happy Birthday to the Brooklyn Bridge

brooklynbridgefireworkparty.jpg

On Thursday night, the Brooklyn Bridge had a big ole birthday party as the landmark celebrated 125 years in existence.

The festivities for the Brooklyn Bridge anniversary included fireworks, a Navy flyover, a colorful new lighting scheme, a musical tribute to honor the storied span, and even a birthday cake in the shape of the bridge.

The 6,000-foot-long landmark is one of the nation's oldest suspension bridges and among its most treasured. It opened on May 24, 1883.

The city of New York plans to spend $250 million to $300 million fixing the ramps and painting the bridge, starting in 2009.

The anniversary events included performances by the Brooklyn Philharmonic and Oscar-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch, who said Thursday he had written "a little sweetness" of a tune for the occasion. And of course, some amazing fireworks!

Court rules in polygamist's favor, now what?

FLDSrulin.jpg

Strike up a win for the polygamists.

A court ruled that the State of Texas had no right to seize several hundred children from a polygamist compound.

The Third Court of Appeals in Austin ruled that the state offered "legally and factually insufficient" grounds for the "extreme" measure of removing all children from the ranch, from babies to teenagers.

That doesn't mean the kids are going right back to their polygamist families, the State will get one more chance to prove that the 464 children were abused while living under the care of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) sect.

It all started with just one call reporting abuse on Texas compound. It may not be much longer until all of the children are back there again.

McCain takes jabs at Obama's age, inexperience

obamamccainexchange.jpgTHE BATTLE OF THE AGE GAP. Even though the Democrats really haven't picked a nominee, John McCain and Barack Obama are already taking stabs at each other. It's definitely going to be a battle of the age gap. McCain is already calling Obama a "young man... with little experience." "I have the knowledge, the background and the judgment to lead this nation. My opponent does not," McCain said.

Airlines push the limits with additional fees

airlinedilemna.jpgCHECK THIS. First they starting charging us to get drunk, then they took away our peanuts... now airlines are going to charge us to check our bags. Many airlines already charge $25 to check a second piece of luggage, but American Airlines will break new ground next month by charging $15 for the first bag checked. United Airlines announced last month it would cut 1,100 jobs and reduce flights, and Delta wants to cut 2,000 jobs.

West Virginia woman alive despite being dead for almost a day with rigor mortis and all!

deadladyrigormortis.jpgBELIEVE IT OR NOT! A West Virginia woman, Val Thomas, was dead as you can be after getting taken off life support, but she wasn't actually dead at all. By the end of the week, Thomas was sitting up and talking. "Her toes were hardened and her toes were curling back," says Tim Thomas, her son. Val's heart stopped at home. Paramedics managed to revive her, but she didn't look right. The family decided to cut off Thomas' life support, but she wasn't ready to die. Rigor mortis had already set in, but that's didn't stop Val. She came back to life, and keeps on ticking!

New York Governor pardons rapper "Slick Rick"

slickrickpardoned.jpgSLICK RICK GETS OUT OF JAIL FREE! New York Gov. David Paterson has granted a full and unconditional pardon to rapper Ricky "Slick Rick" Walters. Walters was charged for attempted murder against his cousin and another man in 1991. The governor said he decided to pardon "Slick Rick" and landlord in the Bronx who hasn't had any criminal problems since his release from prison in 1997. He also says Walters has volunteered to counsel youths against violence. This halts all efforts to have "Slick Rick" deported to the U.K. where is originally from.

Hillary Clinton explains assassination comments

hillaryclintonobamaassassination.jpg

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is under fire by the Obama campaign after giving this as her reason to stay in the Democratic presidential contest:

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right?

We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. You know I just, I don't understand it," Clinton told a newspaper board in South Dakota.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton condemned her comment as "unfortunate" and said it "has no place in this campaign."

Clinton later explained that she wasn't wishing an assassination on Barack Obama. Instead, she was just explaining that campaigns have run as late as June many times in the past.

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson back from honeymoon

peteashleebackinnyc2.jpgLIAR, LIAR Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson told a big lie that they weren't taking a honeymoon after their shotgun wedding in Los Angeles. No word yet on when Ashlee is due or if she is really pregnant at all. Photos of the youngest Simpson daughter frollicking on the beach in Turks and Caicos show Ashlee looking a little - err, knocked up.

Dina Lohan shows off momager skills in "Living Lohan"

livinglohandebut.jpg

"Living Lohan" made its debut on E! Monday night, and if you might enjoy a momager wanna be played by Dina Lohan obsess over what people say about her pop star daughter who is referred to often but never seen (aka Lindsay Lohan).

Dina is also pushing her younger daughter Ali down that same path. Ali says she wants to be just like Lindsay.

Throughout the show, Dina acts like she hates the tabloids. Secretly she has to love it. She even pulled in nobody music producer Jeremy Green who will do anything for a little P.R. Green's "people" even pitched him out as a "star" of "Living Lohan." Later in the show, Dina wonders why Jeremy tells the tabloids that he is dating Lindsay... let's just say Dina is totally naive.

"Living Lohan" is going to get really boring really quickly if they don't drag Lindsay in soon!

Ray J thrown from hotel over marijuana and "Boat" drug

rayjboatdrug.jpg

Ray J, a hip hop artist famous for being Brandy's brother and making a sex tape with Kim Kardashian, was evidently thrown out of the Hyatt in Washington, D.C. this weekend for drug possession.

After a night of partying, Ray J returned to his room on Saturday night when hotel security was called to the singer's suite. There they found marijuana, weed paraphernalia and the club drug "Boat."

His publicist is trying to spin it all, of course. Here's their side: "The altercation did not directly affect Ray J -- it was people in his entourage. But he did the gentlemanly thing and left the hotel anyway." I'm sure he wasn't doing any of the drugs either. Wink! Wink!

The Hyatt staff tells a completely different story. They say Ray J was loud and unruly. They not only had to call the cops, but Ray J's security detail eventually dragged him out. From there, they checked into the crappy Holiday Inn just down the block.

Former Republican Bob Barr wins Liberatarian nomination for President

bobbarrpresident.jpg

It might be a long shot, but the Liberatarians are officially in the Presidential race with former Georgia Republican Congressman Bob Barr.

Barr deafeated research scientist Mary Ruwart, who also went after the party's nomination unsuccessfully back in 1983, on the final ballot by a vote of 324-276.

Former Rep. Barr picked Wayne Allyn Root, who was eliminated in the fifth round of the nomination process, to be his vice-presidential nominee.

"I'm a competitor and I'm in this to win. I do not view the role of the Libertarian Party to be a spoiler and I certainly have no intention of being a spoiler," Barr said.

He also said he hopes his new party is on the ballot in all 50 states, but it might not happen in West Virginia and Oklahoma.

Scott McClellan's book bashes President Bush

scottmcclellanbook.jpgFormer White House spokesperson Scott McClellan is dropping a new book next week, and it evidently bashes President George Bush saying he “veered terribly off course,” was not “open and forthright on Iraq,” and took a “permanent campaign approach” to governing. McClellan has been one of the president's most loyal aides and was one of his earliest allies. It was expected that Scott might take a few jabs at Bush, but most didn't expect anything this serious.

Barack Obama gets slammed over Uncle story

obamaliar.jpgBarack Obama has come under fire by conservative bloggers regarding a story he told about his uncle's military service. Obama told a story of his uncle who "was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps." The problem is that Stalin and the red coats are the ones who freed Auschwitz. The big question is: Was Barack Obama's uncle fighting for the wrong team or did Obama make the whole thing?! His campaign says he misspoke. It looks like Mr. Obama has been caught in a lie, one way or another.

American Idol winner David Cook dating former Idol hopeful Kimberly Caldwell

DavidCookdatingCaldwell.jpg

Evidently the new "American Idol" winner David Cook is doing his best to date former "Idol" cast-off Kimberly Caldwell.

Cook asked Caldwell out to dinner on her TV Guide "American Idol" themed talk show.

"I'm just excited because I finally get to talk to you," David told Kimberly during an interview Wednesday night on the "Idol Tonight" show. "I've been hearing you say all these nice things about me all season, So I'm actually going to ask you to dinner right now."

"I just got asked out on a date," Caldwell gloated after Cook left the set.

The date has already happened, and David continues to brag.

"She's great," Cook tells Extra. "So far, I've had a really good time with her."

Chris Cagle and girfriend arrested in Nashville after rednec

chriscaglearrested.jpg

chriscaglegirlfriendarrested.jpgCountry singer Chris Cagle and his wonderfully white trash girlfriend Jennifer Tant were arrested early Wednesday morning for domestic assault charges.

A Nashville police affidavit said Chris and Jennifer were intoxicated and an argument turned physical then the cops were called.

Karla Weikal of the Davidson County Sheriff's Department said there was a mandatory 12-hour stay in jail before Cagle and Tant could post their $1,500 bonds.

A spokeswoman for Capitol Nashville, Cagle's record label, said the company had no comment.

Cagle is scheduled to stand trial Sept. 23 in Tucson, Ariz., on a misdemeanor assault charge. He is accused of striking a local resident on December 13th after a benefit concert.

You can take the rednecks out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the rednecks.

Don't both Cagle and Tant look hot in their mug shots? grrrr!

Dana Perino reacts to Scott McClellan's new book

danaperinoreacts.jpg

The White House is reacting to former spokesperson Scott McClellan's tell-all excerpts about George W. Bush from his upcoming book due out next week.

The first to bat back, the current White House Press Secretary Dana Perino.

Dana released this statement:

"Scott, we now know, is disgruntled about his experience at the White House. For those of us who fully supported him, before, during and after he was press secretary, we are puzzled. It is sad - this is not the Scott we knew.

"The book, as reported by the press, has been described to the President. I do not expect a comment from him on it - he has more pressing matters than to spend time commenting on books by former staffers."

Let the cat fight begin! I bet Dubya isn't commenting, because McClellan is probably telling the truth. Perino is probably just trying to save her job.

Ouch! I bet this is going to get really nasty!

Gallup polls show Clinton most likely to win swing states

hillaryclintonmostlikelytowinnov.jpg

According to a recent Gallup poll, Hillary Clinton is more likely than Barack Obama to win swing states in November against John McCain.

The Gallup poll shows that in the six swing states that Clinton won during the nomination battle, she has a 51%-41% advantage over McCain and would collect up to 61 Electoral College votes if the election were held today.

The same process shows Obama leading McCain 49%-41% in the six swing states he won during the nomination battle and coming away with 54 Electoral College votes if the election were today.

Maybe this will give the Clinton campaign more amo to walk away from the Democratic National Convention with the party's nomination.

Comcast email and domain hacked

comcasthackers.jpg

This is what Comcast email users and Comcast.net and visitors say on Wednesday evening when the sites were hacked.

Unknown hackers tapped into the Comcast system, but it appears that the site is back under Comcast control.

A "Page under Construction" message appeared on the main page Thursday morning, but users have reported that the page was previously showing messages posted by Hackers like this screen cap above.

Comcast users weren't able to access their email sign in pages, the main website or any of the company's online features.

This Comcast hacking has left customers wondering how they may have been violated. Could their passwords, credit cards and social security numbers be at risk?

We'll have to wait until Comcast releases a statement to find out.

Metropolitan Opera infested with mice according to health reports

metopera.jpg

Before you grab another cocktail and piece of cheese from the tray at the Metropolitan Opera, you might want to think twice.

The grand theater at Lincoln Center has been cited for sanitary violations by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Evidently the Metropolitan Opera has mice!

During an April 9th restaurant inspection at the Met, the department found "evidence of mice or live mice present in facility's food and/or nonfood areas," according to reports on Department of Health and Mental Hygiene website.

Met spokesman Peter Clark said he had no immediate comment and was awaiting a response from the organization that runs the Met's restaurants.

Meanwhile, stay away from the Met or watch your feet!
